Phonics Lesson 2-1 Layer Two Suffix s

Monday, July 8, 2019 No comments
A couple years ago, my school adopted the Phonics First program. Not gonna lie, I was nervous when we changed programs. I'd always been a Saxon Phonics girl! I was comfortable with Saxon because I had taught it for years and years.

Fast forward..I go to the training. I learn that it is based on Orton and Gillingham. Presenters show us why and how to do whole group, small group, and individual teaching. After training, I thought "ok, I can do this". The next week, I begin to integrate things I learned during training. Weeks later, I was teaching this new program and adding my own spin to it. Now I love this program so much!!

Although I seriously enjoy teaching this program, the curriculum doesn't come with a great deal of resources to use. I needed more. My students needed more. Therefore, I am creating resources that work well with this curriculum.

Click here to check out lesson 2-1 Suffix S literacy center activities.
Build The Word activities are a great way to have hands on activity when composing words with suffix s.
QR codes help students have extra word and sentence dictation practice.
Sentence Unscramble hands on activity has words that contain suffix s.
These centers are differentiated for lower and higher learners.
It contains recording sheets and answer keys.
Task cards are included for various ways to write words.

FYI, the Phonics First resources I create do not have to be used with the program. All resources I create can be used by anyone needing center work for phonics practice.

I hope you check out my resources and enjoy them as much as I do!

Happy Camper Behavior Chart-FREEBIE!!

Sunday, April 28, 2019 No comments
In my classroom, the behavior clip chart works for me. These are the reasons I have had success...
*Kids are accountable for behavior. Those babies love pulling their pins up for good behavior and don't like pulling them down for negative behavior. If applicable, I allow them to pull the pin back up once behavior is corrected. Honestly, for most kids, they feel success for correcting that behavior and won't do the negative offense again..most of the time..
*My coworkers have had success with class dojo and online things like this. Personally, I haven't had success with online methods because a lot of my students parents don't participate and won't download the app.
*Great documentation
Positive-My school babies love to see that I have written a note about good behavior. I don't write something everyday but I do write why his/her pin was pulled up. Parents like this too.
Negative-I write the offense of why the child had to pull his/her clip down. It's good to have this documentation to see if the behavior continues.

Clip Chart
This clip chart works like other clip charts-print, laminate, hang up, and add clothes pins (or clips) labeled with student names. You're set!

Take home folder
At the beginning of the school year, I make a copy of the entire school year, punch holes, and insert into a prong folder. (Of course vinyl folders hold up longer)
Daily, I write behavior that happened that day.
At the end of the month, I rip the monthly sheet out and file it to keep as documentation.

Parent Letter
Included is a parent letter that describes the behavior chart system.

An editable chart is included!

1st Grade Reading Street Word Wall

Saturday, April 27, 2019 No comments
Guys, I have 18 days left in this school year. EIGHTEEN days!! Although I really do enjoy my school kiddos, I'm ready to be home for the summer with my 7 month old twin girls and 3 sons.

This 1st Grade Reading Street Word Wall is in my teacher pay teacher store. It has been great this year!

RESOURCE:
The resource includes the following types of weekly words - spelling, high frequency, and amazing. Words are included for review weeks-unit five. Each card is labeled with unit and weekly number. Example: Unit 1 Week 2 will read as "U1W2".

HOW TO USE:
At the beginning of the school year, the wall will be bare. Each week, I will add words needed for the weekly story. The words will remain up for the remainder of the year. Through out the year, students will be able to use these words as review, word word, center tasks, etc...
If you prefer to display words at the beginning of the school year, that's great. Weekly words could be highlighted with tape or sticker so they can quickly be identified.
In the above photo, only high frequency words are shown. I put spelling word cards on medal rings to make portable word walls. Amazing words are also displayed as portable word walls.

STORAGE
If you chose to add words as needed, words can easily be stored in index card boxes, dollar tree sandwich containers, or ziploc bags. I store my words in ziploc bags. Fancy huh?? HA!HA!
